The Weight of Anxiety

Professional sports is a huge global industry. Soccer is growing rapidly, and my children know the names of athletes on other continents because of the video games that they play and the internet.
I have known many a professional athlete. The public doesn’t see the weight of their performance and the uncertainty of where they will live and play in the coming season. The public doesn’t see the truth that owners and management of these teams view these men and women as liabilities and assets in their business models. This can create anxiety and strain on their marriages, uncertainty for their children, and a weight in their hearts that people don’t understand.
I am sure that there are things about what you do and pressures that you face that other people don’t really understand until they walk in your shoes.
Listen to Proverbs 12:25. It states, “Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.”
If you live long enough, you are going to get weighed down with worry. How wonderful it is when someone gives you an encouraging word. Who in your life today needs that encouraging word from you? It only takes a second to send someone a text or an e-mail saying, “I prayed for you today. God is with you!” So when you see someone weighed down with the worries of life, bless him and show your appreciation with your words. Take just a moment to make him glad.
Remember, anxiety and worry weigh a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
Blessings,
Pastor Dave
